Liza Rylskaya illustrates “What Are You Scared Of?” for Teen Breathe

Teen Breathe commissioned Liza Rylskaya to illustrate a feature about fear, avoidance and the ways young people experience phobias.

The brief called for two illustrated spreads with room for editorial text. Liza explored both full-spread and divided layouts, building the imagery around a child’s emotional experience rather than literal scenes of danger.

Following the first review, the direction became quieter and more character-led. The selected scenes show a girl looking through her hands and another examining a spider through a magnifying glass — moments that balance vulnerability with curiosity.

The final artwork was completed in colour and prepared for print as two magazine spreads.
